The reading passage and the professor are both discuss about the topic of the function of building in New Mexico. However, the speaker discords with the reading passage. He states the three functions in the article are questionable, offering several reasons to oppose the article.

The first reason (function of building)   is not possible for residential purpose. Although in the article it claims that the outside of buildings looks like the recent house in Southwest society, the professor says the number of fire places and room inside the building are too few to meet the residential purpose. Thus, the lecture believes the function of the building inside can’t meet the demand of resident even it looks like dwelling outside.  

Second, the speaker refutes the reading by mentioning the weakness of storing food supplies. Though the article states the size of room is suitable for store food such as maize, he argue that the excavation can’t find the evidence of grain maize and maize container. Therefore, the lecture concludes that there no evidence from excavation show the function of building is for food storage.

The third reason (hypothesis) is the questionable function of ceremonial center. While the article indicates there are piles of material in one house named Pueblo Alto, the speaker points out the material in the room like sand, stone, and construction material are trash. Hence, the professor holds that the material in the room can’t state the purpose of ceremonies.

Finally, the professor in the lecture disagrees with the points in the reading. He believes the three functions in the article are not convincing.
